After watching the DaVinci code last night and our adventures at Rosslyn we were in the mood for some relic hunting today ,so, of we went in search for the stone of Fordoun and the bones of St.Palladius.
After a lot of fannying about due to me giving a Bro a map from the 40's we eventually found Fordoun Parish church where the stone is supposed to be.
Can't find it!
Ah ha, a clue appears as we find this old pigeon crap encrusted info board hidden away around the side beside a bench.
Extreme excitement as we found this old cellar which had a heavy grill across it. After much hilarity and strength we managed to move it and in I went.
Unfortunately I forgot to bring the spistorch so had to make do with my mobile light.
What I found was a 10ft x 15ft cavern with 3 shelf inlets but alas no relics or remains.
Out I come empty handed but happy.
The stone was seemingly in the vestibule of the church which was closed!!!
Inside the tomb.
We were gonna phone the minister to let us in.
And so , on to St.Palladius chapel to search for the remains of the saint.
We're in and start looking for the remains of the elusive saint.
St.Jag gives a sermon.
Round the back of the church trying to find St.Palladius's well.
The man himself...St.P
Spot Bro.
Where's wally?
Crikey! I find an old cruifix behind a closed door with steps leading up to the belfry.
A quick picnic break before heading up the steps. See the video later.
Drumochty castle. Today's soundtrack was Mumford & Sons, Jake Bugg, The Courteeners and PiL.
Bro gets a tad excited as he finds old Fordoun Station on the way home.
