Todays task was to try and find evidence of the Bubonic plague that hit Brechin in 1647.

Picture
Our first stop was at the Cathedral itself, the heart of Brechin, and we were looking for a stone with a Latin inscription that translated as ' In four quarters of the crescent moon, 600 people have died of the pestilence'.

The workings of the original clock.

Loads of stones and fragments of old stuff lying about.

We had the place to ourselves for a few moments before the inevitable arrival of some tasts

Fantastic stained glass window.
Picture
I thought this was an old toilet until closer inspection revealed it to be some font.

A 6.5 on the SPiSometer in the guestbook.

After much searching Bro finds the stone. Just 20 minutes before we were at the other side of that locked gate trying to get in!!

And here it is.

Looking up the old round tower.
The next part of the trail was across to Kintrockat house where an ancient path led to an old mound where the families of the plague victims would leave food for them.
Picture
We got nabbed by the house owner trying to sneak into the woods but she said it was ok as Bro used his charm and blagging skills to allow us to continue.

Recreating the classic Virginia Waters pose from 1968.
And finally onto Logie Pert to find The Buchanan stone, regarded as the best stone in Angus due to it's masonary work and artistic merit.
